I'm Professor Ken Frieden. I traveled around Eastern Europe in the summers of 1995 (Lithuania), 2005 (Ukraine), 2006 and 2010 (Poland). At the following links, I have interspersed some of the photos I took with travel narratives I wrote:
This blog details my exploration of places that are associated with Jewish life and literature before 1939.
I specialize in Hebrew and Yiddish literature and have held the B.G. Rudolph Chair in Judaic Studies at Syracuse University since 1993. I received my Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Yale.
I enthusiastically thank Kathleen O'Neil for her expert help with the technological adaptation and formatting. I also want to thank her sister Erin O'Neil, who miraculously typed the narratives of Poland and Ukraine from my illegible journals.
